In a significant crackdown on credit card fraud, the Cyber Police Station in Delhi's North-East District has arrested six individuals allegedly running a fraudulent call center. The operation is believed to have duped victims out of a collective Rs 1.31 lakh by impersonating bank representatives and offering to increase credit limits. The investigation began after a complaint by a resident, Amit Kumar, who fell victim to the scheme when he received a call from an individual posing as a bank official.

According to police reports, Kumar was contacted by fraudsters who claimed they could enhance his credit card limit. Once they gained his trust, they extracted sensitive details including his credit card information, which they used to conduct unauthorized transactions. This manipulation led to substantial financial losses, highlighting the need for vigilance among consumers regarding unsolicited calls from individuals claiming to represent financial institutions.

Law enforcement officials acted promptly upon receiving the e-FIR, leading to thorough technical surveillance and forensic analysis. Investigators discovered that the defrauded amount had been used for various online purchases, including a Samsung smartphone and accessories through the application Blinkit. The trace of these transactions led authorities to one of the suspects, Anish Gupta, who was using a mobile device linked to the fraudulent calls.

Upon Gupta's apprehension and further questioning, authorities were able to uncover the existence of a larger criminal operation. They conducted a raid on a rented flat located in Khyala, West Delhi, which served as the base for the call center. During this operation, five additional suspects—identified as Nitin Solanki, Simran, Ishika, Dhruv, and Bobby Shresth—were arrested, all connected to the systematic targeting of unsuspecting victims under the guise of bank representatives.

This case underscores a broader trend of credit card fraud where scammers utilize sophisticated tactics to deceive individuals into divulging their personal and financial information. As fraudsters impersonate trusted bank officials, it raises important questions for consumers on how to protect themselves. Cardholders should remain cautious about solicited communications and verify the legitimacy of any requests for sensitive information. The police are continuing their investigations to uncover further victims and financial connections to the criminal enterprise, stressing the importance of reporting suspicious activity immediately.
